This document is the electronic version of Smart Watch, the newsletter for the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking.
Abstract
The newsletter highlights the ongoing activities, resources, funding opportunities, and upcoming events for the SMART Office. Highlights for this month include articles on the reallocation of Byrne JAG funds; progress on the substantial implementation of SORNA in nearly all States, territories, and the District of Columbia; the work of the International Tracking of Sex Offenders Working Group; new funding initiatives by the SMART Office; and the launch of the office's Sex Offender Management Assessment and Planning Initiative (SOMAPI), a project designed to assess the state of research and practice in sex offender management. The Resources section of the newsletter contains items on updates to the SMART Office's technological tools (NSOPW, the SORNA Exchange Portal, TTSORS, and an upcoming social media tool), and the Notification of International Travel of Sex Offender form. The Spotlight section highlights SORNA implementation in Indian Country, along with information on the SMART Office's review process and tips for getting through the process.
