Juvenile-oriented policing (JOP) models the community- oriented policing philosophy in that it employs a strategy to create a partnership between juveniles and the police for the common goal of eliminating underlying causes of juvenile crime.
Abstract
The JOP approach actively solicits the involvement of young people and seeks to provide children and their families with a sense of security and safety. In addition, the JOP approach gives police officers an opportunity to minimize negative experiences and instead offer children positive role models. Problems that may be faced by police officials in implementing the JOP approach are noted, including controversy about JOP's effectiveness and fear of failure, but the JOP approach is still viewed as an innovative juvenile crime control strategy. 2 endnotes
