The report surveys how teachers view contemporary juvenile delinquency and what opinions they have about delinquency prevention in schools.
Abstract
Junior and senior high school teachers whose schools are located in the metropolitan Tokyo area were randomly sampled and mailed a questionnaire. Responses from 296 junior high and 390 senior high school teachers were analyzed. Teachers generally view juvenile delinquency as the result of such environmental conditions as disturbed family life, unsteady adult leadership, and vulgar mass media influences. Teachers are much concerned about a decline of their autonomy, especially the public high school teachers. Other findings are also noted. Study data and references are included.
