This book presents lessons to help teachers, caregivers, and parents in giving children regular social skills lessons.
Abstract
The book contains a ready-to-use curriculum based on real-life situations to help build children's self-esteem, self-control, respect for the rights of others, and a sense of responsibility for their own actions. It is presented in sections concerning: (1) disciplinary strategies; (2) thinking before acting; (3) listening; (4) following rules; (5) following directions; (6) respect for others; (7) improving self-image; (8) sharing; (9) accepting consequences; (10) self-control; (11) problem solving; (12) completing assignments; (13) dealing with name calling; (14) dealing with anger; (15) avoiding tattling; (16) accepting change; (17) dealing with feelings; (18) accepting differences; (19) getting along with others; (20) attending to task; (21) dealing with conflicts; (22) communicating with others; and (23) dealing with peer pressure. Each lesson covers: establishing the need, identifying the skill components, modeling the skill, behavioral rehearsal, practice, and using the behaviors outside the school, and includes reproducibles. The book also contains a social skills task review and a social skills family training project. Bibliography
