Annotation
INTENDED FOR USE AS PART OF AN ALCOHOLISM INSTRUCTION PROGRAM, THIS FILM PRESENTS 16 EX-ALCOHOLICS DISCUSSING THE ADDICTION EXPERIENCES FROM WHICH THEY HAVE RECENTLY EMERGED.
Abstract
SINCE THE DRUNK IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN THE DAILY ROUTINE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, THE FILM ALSO SHOULD PROVIDE POLICE WITH A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE NATURE OF THIS ADDICTION AND ITS EMOTIONAL DIMENSIONS. THE FILM DOES NOT PROVIDE FACTS AND DELIBERATELY USES NO CINEMATOGRAPHIC DEVICES OR ENHANCEMENTS. IT RECORDS THE INTENSE IMAGES OF 16 FACES--PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THEMSELVES, THEIR FEELINGS, DEGRADATION, DESPAIR, AND EVENTUAL SELF-CONTROL. THE INTENT OF THE FILM IS TO STIMULATE SYMPATHY AND THOUGHT BY MAKING VIEWERS FEEL THAT THEY ARE BEING PERSONALLY ADDRESSED BY THE SPEAKERS ON THE SCREEN. AN ACCOMPANYING HANDBOOK EXPLAINS THE EDUCATIONAL CONTEXT IN THE FIRM IS TO BE USED. (MRK)
