Articles in this magazine for youth teach the principles of conflict resolution and violence prevention as well as how to address various situations in which violence and aggression are perpetrated against oneself.
Abstract
A discussion of the inevitability and prevalence of conflict is followed by a quiz designed to determine how much the reader knows about violence. The failure of adults to handle conflict in an adult manner is considered, and then the "Win Win" objective is explained; the latter involves the use of conflict-resolution skills so that both parties in a conflict experience beneficial outcomes. A number of articles illustrate various principles of conflict resolution in particular situations, such as communication between the genders, differing perceptions of the same situation, the stereotyping of Arabs as violent terrorists, principles of communication, domestic violence, acquaintance rape, sexual harassment, cultural differences, and peer pressure. Other articles consider how to handle anger, violence in the media, the principles of mediation, and how to handle family conflict. See NCJ-160388 for WinWin! Teacher's Guide
