Data on correctional budgets and expenditures encompass operating and capital expenditures, major operating expenses, capital expenditures and projects, adult correctional budgets, budget changes from 1997-98, incarceration costs paid by inmates, wages earned by inmates and garnishments, specific costs paid by inmates, and jail and detention facility operating budgets. Data on correctional facilities and populations address numbers of facilities and programs for adults; jails and detention centers; facilities and programs for juveniles; juvenile detention facilities by administration; and adult inmate population in institutions, by security, and by age. Also included are a historical view of the U.S. prison population; a death sentence survey; and data on the movement of prisoners in adult systems. Also addressed are juveniles under supervision by security and age, a profile of State prisoners under age 18 (1985-97), jail and detention facility population, and juvenile detention population by sex and race. A section on health care encompasses 1998 health care budgets, 1998 health care staffing, health care services and medical co-pays, specialized inmate health care services, and female inmate health services. Information is also provided on HIV/AIDS testing, infection rates, and services (1998). Data on management issues encompass such topics as sentencing guidelines, death penalty numbers, computer use, prison industries, and community corrections. Personnel data encompass numbers of personnel, salary ranges, fringe benefits, and training.
