This section of the "Strategic Planning Master Notebook" presents the lesson plan and accompanying participant materials for a training workshop module on the vision and mission statement for a jurisdictional team established to plan and implement juvenile detention reform.
Abstract
One performance objective for the module is to develop an understanding of the basic concepts of a vision and mission statement, which includes knowing the difference between the statement, ideology, goals, objectives, and competencies. Other performance objectives are to begin to visualize the role that each team member's agency will play in a jurisdictional reform effort; to have a better understanding of participants' and others' expectations for the jurisdictional team; and to provide input for the development of a draft vision and mission statement. In addition to performance objectives, the lesson plan describes instructional method/techniques and lists instructor materials as well as equipment and supplies needed. The content of the module is then outlined under the following topics: the importance of a clear vision and mission, the role of front-line employees in developing a vision and mission statement, the definitions of a vision and mission statement, and the vision and mission development process. This section also contains a sample mission statement of the Illinois State Police as well as vision statements for each of its divisions.
