This report and its 18 accompanying recommendations to Congress and the President is the culmination of a 2-year process of review of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act.
Abstract
The National Coalition of State Juvenile Justice Advisory Groups asks Congress and the President to recommit to the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act and its goals by reauthorizing the act and appropriating sufficient funds to implement the act's goals. An intent of the coalition is to increase its efforts to realize the goals of the act. The coalition urges the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to join it in a revitalized partnership to remove status offenders from all correctional facilities, to bar the use of adult jails and institutions to incarcerate children, to address the disproportionate representation of minorities at all stages of the juvenile justice process, and to significantly respond to the needs of American Indian youth and their juvenile justice systems. 73 references
