Abstract
Training and related services for practitioners in juvenile corrections, detention, and probation and parole have been offered for 12 years. Each training program provides several days of intensive training, including small- and large-group discussion group exercises and shared experiences. Participants develop individual action plans or initiate projects to be implemented at home. These programs share a common purpose: to have a positive and practical impact on the serious problems affecting youth today. Endeavors include improving the effectiveness of juvenile and family courts, detention, corrections, and reentry/aftercare; providing alternatives for youth at risk of becoming delinquents; reducing the number of school dropouts; preventing child abduction, abuse, and exploitation; and providing appropriate sanctions for serious, violent, and chronic juvenile offenders. The training programs include leadership and management, helping agencies build capacity for training, juvenile offender management, and facility management. Information services are offered along with technical assistance via videoconferencing, distance learning, e-learning, and training at the NIC Training Center in Longmont, Colorado. Information on Partnership programs is also offered.
