In 1992, a total of 160 people were detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act 1989, compared with 153 in 1991.
Abstract
A total of 140 detentions were in connection with Northern Irish terrorism, an increase from 121 in 1991. The remaining 20 were in connection with international terrorism, a decrease from the 32 in 1991. At the end of 1992, 81 persons remained subject to an exclusion order, fewer than in any previous year since 1982. Forty-one of those detained in 1992 were either charged with an offense, deported, removed, or excluded. Only eight persons were detained for more than 48 hours and not charged with an offense, excluded, deported, or removed during 1992. A total of 270 persons were interrogated for more than 1 hour but not detained; 7 percent of these persons were charged with criminal offenses. Tables and notes
