This is a three-part document on drug seizures and offenders in the United Kingdom in 1992.
Abstract
Part 1, the statistical bulletin, contains main points and summaries, as well as annual comparisons for the last 10 years. Part 2, "Area tables," shows seizure and offender data by region. Part 3, "Supplementary tables," shows statistics by type of drug, demographics of offender, action taken against the offender, and length of sentence. In 1992, total seizures rose by 3 percent, the lowest annual increase in several years. Although most (80 percent) involved cannabis, the number of cannabis seizures dropped slightly for the first time since 1975; however, the quantity seized in 1992 was 60 percent more than in 1991. A record 2.2 tons of cocaine was seized. Cautions constituted 51 percent of actions taken against offenders; fines, 27 percent. Since 1982, the use of cautioning has increased, while the use of fines has decreased. The number of drug offenders increased 3 percent to 48,900; offenders under age 21 accounted for 50 percent of the increase. Tables, charts, maps
