THIS REPORT OFFERS PROGRESS ON THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION PROGRAMS IN THE SAN JUAN AREA.
Abstract
THERE WERE TWO PHASES TO THE SUCCESS OF THIS PROGRAM. ONE PHASE INVOLVED ESTABLISHING AND DEVELOPING PROGRAMS THAT DRAW UPON THE FACILITIES OF VARIOUS MUNICIPAL AGENCIES. THE SECOND PHASE INVOLVED ALLOWING THE YOUTHS TO WORK TOGETHER IN THE SOLUTION OF THEIR PROBLEMS, AND ENCOURAGING IN THEM A SENSE OF SELF-WORTH. THE PROJECT BEGAN IN JANUARY 1972, AND ITS EXPIRATION DATE WAS OCTOBER 1973. THE FIRST PHASE WAS FULFILLED ENTIRELY, THE REPORT SAYS. IN THE SECOND PHASE, FOUR OF THE SEVEN ACTION PROGRAMS PROJECTED WERE IMPLEMENTED. SECOND PHASE PROGRAM HAD STAFFING DIFFICULTIES DUE TO THE SHORTAGE OF TRAINED PROFESSIONALS ON THE ISLAND.
