Abstract
The manual emphasizes the use of proactive rather than reactive approaches to school security and describes security programs and measures that have been proven to be effective. Individual chapters focus on the security responsibilities, the organization of the office of security, security and loss prevention planning, security measures, security personnel, and the control of personnel and vehicle movements. Additional chapters focus on barriers and openings, protective lighting, intrusion detection systems, security education and training, security personnel communications, and security devices and equipment. Specific topics include bomb threats and checklists, drug and alcohol testing, random inspection, metal detector and search guidelines, emergency response plans, security assessment and survey tools, and operating procedures.
