This article from Corrections Today discusses implementation of Roanoke County Sheriff's Office's online system for conducting its accreditation audit.
Abstract
This article details how the Roanoke County Sheriff's Office implemented an online system for providing proofs of compliance required for accreditation from the American Correctional Association. Prior experience at scanning and submitting documents electronically was important to the successful implementation of the new process. The implementation of the system began in January 2011 with the creation of files for the 383 standards used in the accreditation process. While initial set-up of the online system was time-consuming, the details worked in to the system allowed for easy transfer of documentation to the system. Following set-up of the system, several mock audits were conducted in order to work out any problems. In March 2012, the audit team from the American Correctional Association began its audit of the Roanoke County Sheriff's Office. Due to the ease of use of the online system, the audit was completed quicker than anticipated, allowing for review of other areas of the facility.
