This drug/alcohol manual is designed to train resource persons from the legal profession for active participation in Law-Related Education (LRE) programs sponsored by the Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) Law Fraternity. The goals of this particular program are to help students develop a knowledge of State drug and alcohol laws, an awareness of the legal and social consequences of drug and alcohol use, a personal definition of responsible behavior; law students who help teach the course will develop professionally through participation in a community service project.
Abstract
This manual outlines two models for the PAD LRE drug and alcohol education program. The Texas model consists of student-led discussions, while the Minnesota model uses a mock trial demonstration presented in high schools, with students playing the roles of jurors and testifying witnesses and law students performing the roles of prosecutor, defense attorney, and judge. This manual describes the benefits for law students of getting involved in the LRE program and elements of program implementation. The six lessons included in this manual cover drug and alcohol-related laws, drug controls, drug scheduling, conduct and actions, legal penalties, and the mock DWI trial demonstration. 16 appendixes
