Intended to increase the knowledge and skills of private security personnel, this text is designed to meet the training needs of the private security officer and to complement the effort of the National Advisory Committee on Private Security toward the professionalization of private security.
Abstract
The text explains the role and responsibilities of private security officers and presents a code of ethics and rules of conduct for a private security officer. Additional sections explain the legal authority and jurisdiction of a private security officer, the principles and practice of effective public relations, arrest laws and arrest procedures, and search and seizure laws and procedures. Additional chapters detail patrol methods and techniques, note-taking and report writing, methods of handling disturbances, procedures for handling a crime in progress, safety and fire prevention, and the preservation of the crime scene. Further chapters discuss weapons and their use, emergency medical assistance, crowd contact and civil disorders, courtroom demeanor, entry and exit control through personnel identification systems, and the use of telephone and radio communications.
