Abstract
The mission of OVC is to enhance the country’s capability to assist crime victims and to provide leadership in changing attitudes and developing policies and practices that promote justice and healing for all victims of crimes. The OVC Training and Technical Assistance Center provides victim service professionals a central access point for a range of victim resources. OVC’s national training program brings professional trainings to locations across the country on a regular basis. The catalog lists the trainings alphabetically by topic and includes a status designation that indicates whether the training is available, in development, or scheduled. Training topics include building victim programs, community-based crisis response initiatives, cultural considerations in assisting victims, death notification, juvenile court response to victims of juvenile offenders, training attorneys to respond to domestic violence and elder abuse, and services for victims of gang violence. Additional topics include traumatic grief, victim-offender mediation and dialogue, hate and bias crime training for law enforcement and victim assistance professionals, AIDS and victim services, and the Safe Harbor model for violence prevention and intervention in a school.
