This book provides a framework of evidence and analysis from leading experts to support the work of the Independent Commission on Youth Crime and Antisocial Behavior whose task is to draw up a blueprint for reform in responding to youth crime.
Abstract
The Independent Commission on Youth Crime and Antisocial Behavior was established in 2008 under the auspices of the Police Foundation with funding from the Nuffield Foundation. The purpose of the commission is to provide a blueprint for an effective, humane, and sustainable approach to youth crime and antisocial behavior that is based on clear principles and on sound evidence. This book presents the more detailed analysis and evidence that forms the background to the Commission's proposals. It provides an authoritative review by leading experts of the relevant social science and socio-legal analysis. The detailed and authoritative reviews of the research evidence presented include: youth transitions, time trends in youth crime, the evolution of the youth justice system, responses to antisocial behavior, causes of antisocial behavior, change in the family, successful interventions to prevent the development of offending, contrasting models of youth justice, the system in Canada, and public opinion and the politics of crime.
