EACH OF THE 20 PROGRAM MODELS SUMMARIZED HERE IS AIMED AT HELPING STATUS OFFENDERS. THEY RANGE FROM PROGRAMS TO HELP OVERCOME POLICE HOSTILITY, TO FAMILY COUNSELING, TO PROGRAMS TO KEEP CHILDREN IN SCHOOL.
Abstract
THE NATIONAL JUVENILE JUSTICE PROGRAM COLLABORATION IS A TASK FORCE OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF NATIONAL VOLUNTARY HEALTH AND SOCIAL WELFARE ORGANIZATIONS. UNDER A FEDERAL GRANT IT WORKED WITH A VARIETY OF COMMUNITIES IN FIVE AREAS OF THE COUNTRY TO SET UP MODEL PROGRAMS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF JUVENILE STATUS OFFENDERS. THIS IS A SUMMARY OF 20 OF THESE PROGRAMS. EACH SUMMARY CONTAINS A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED, THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM, A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM, ITS COST, A BRIEF EVALUATION, A LIST OF COMMUNITY AGENCIES COOPERATING IN THE PROGRAM, AND A SOURCE OF ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. THE PROGRAMS INCLUDE TWO POLICE-JUVENILE CAMPING PROJECTS, A 'RESOURCE FAIR' TO ACQUAINT VARIOUS COMMUNITY AGENCIES WITH THE FACILITIES AND RESOURCES OF OTHER AGENCIES, SCHOOL PROGRAMS, CAREER TUTORING AND WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS, FAMILY COUNSELING PROGRAMS, AN EMERGENCY SHELTER PROGRAM, A LEGISLATIVE PROGRAM, A JAIL WATCH PROGRAM TO INTERCEPT STATUS OFFENDERS, AND PROGRAMS TO INCREASE COMMUNITY AWARENESS AND IMPROVE CASE HANDLING.
