This 1992-93 Annual Report of the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (NACRO) describes NACRO's crime-prevention programs and activities.
Abstract
NACRO aims to help prevent crime, combat social deprivation and lack of opportunity, divert people (such as the mentally disturbed) from custody, prepare inmates for release, and help them to resettle after release. In this annual report, workers, volunteers, and clients describe their experiences regarding what works. The programs and personal experiences described are about housing for vulnerable youths, the prevention of crime on housing estates, work with schools to prevent crime by students, and the diversion of mentally disturbed offenders. Other NACRO activities described pertain to the prevention of racial discrimination, countering drug-related crime, preparation for release, and resettlement support. A NACRO progress report for 1992-93 summarizes activities in employment and training, education, housing, prisons and resettlement, crime and social policy, mental health, race and criminal justice, youth crime, training services, and research, policy, and information. NACRO addresses are provided.
