This section of the "Strategic Planning Master Notebook" contains the lesson plan for a training workshop module on the monitoring of strategies for reducing crowding in juvenile detention facilities, so as to determine whether they are being effective.
Abstract
The module's performance objectives are to be familiar with the concept of setting goals for program evaluation; to be familiar with two parts of a comprehensive evaluation component; to understand the importance of complete and accurate data for monitoring; and to know a variety of measurements to determine whether strategies to reduce crowding are effective. In addition to the performance objectives, the lesson plan describes instructional methods/techniques and lists instructor materials as well as equipment and supplies needed. The outline of the module content advises that without monitoring and the associated evaluation tools, administrators cannot know whether the strategies are having the intended effects. The recommended two-part evaluation consists of a process evaluation, which assesses the degree to which the model was implemented as planned, and an outcome evaluation which analyzes how successfully the strategy is working. Also discussed in the module are data sources and measures of effectiveness.
