Abstract
Noting survey findings that 28 percent of high school and college students have experienced dating violence, the text explains the difference between romantic, nurturing, and addictive love and describes the nature of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. It explores the causes and dynamics of these abuse patterns, tells readers how to determine if they are being abused or are being abusive, and offers practical suggestions on actions to take. It also provides guidance on how to obtain help from parents and other adults, how to build healthy relationships, and what to do if a friend is in an abusive relationship. In addition, first-person accounts present the perspectives of teenagers on the abusive relationships in which they were involved.
