Abstract
A section on prevention focuses on the role of school administrators, teachers, and staff, as well as the roles of students, parents/guardians, the community, and law enforcement. A section on threat assessment (alarming statements or behaviors that cause concern about subsequent violence) outlines possible components of threat assessment strategies as well as the content of a threat incident report. A section on crisis planning and preparation outlines the role of school administrators, teachers, and staff, as well as the role of law enforcement and emergency response personnel. Another section describes the roles of school administrators, teachers, and staff; students; and law enforcement during a major crisis of school violence. This is followed by a description of the roles of various stakeholders following a crisis of school violence. These stakeholders are school administrators; teachers and staff; school counselors, psychologists, and social workers; parents; the community; and law enforcement personnel. A section on legal considerations focuses on the liability of schools when students are harmed, when schools bring wrongful accusations and discharge, and when schools violate students' rights. The liability of parents/guardians is also considered. Other sections address recommendations for the media, legislative issues, and weblinks with additional information. Organizational and publication resources are also listed.
