Testimony, statements, and exhibits examine Federal drug interdiction efforts with a focus on command, control, and communications (C3) and intelligence networks.
Abstract
Testimony examines the extent of drug smuggling, antidrug legislation, and the responsibilities of key agencies in the drug law enforcement effort. The effectiveness of current interdiction efforts is assessed, and gaps in coverage and means for improving effectiveness are discussed. Ground, sea, and air interdiction efforts are outlined. Efforts being undertaken to expand the interdiction capabilities of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Customs Service are described. These include the establishment of a national C3 system, use of technology for more efficient and effective intelligence gathering, and coordination of efforts among agencies involved in drug interdiction. Exhibits include letters, memoranda, and reports on drug interdiction efforts and C3 intelligence systems.
