This study analyzed various lip glosses by using thin-layered chromatography to determine the most suitable solvent system.
Abstract
Results of the analysis showed that toluene/benzene and toluene/benzene/cyclohexane were the most effective in separating the various components of lip glosses. They were the most suitable solvent system for the separation of components of all the samples of lip glosses examined. Further studies are recommended using different batches of lip glosses and different brands of lip gloss. An investigation on the effect of aged samples is also recommended. With the popularity of lip gloss over the last few years, the analysis of this cosmetic product has grown in importance. However, past research has focused on lipsticks. In this study, 29 samples of lip glosses were analyzed by thin-layered chromatography using 28 different solvent systems using visual aids (daylight, ultraviolet light, and iodine fuming).
