The traditional ideology of syndicate criminal activity supported in law enforcement circles is flawed by a lack of objective empirical support and biasing socio-political influences. Furthermore, traditional models of syndicate crime did not anticipate current methods associated with drug trafficking and, consequently, should not serve as the basis for American anti-narcotics policies and strategies.
Abstract
These structurally-oriented organized crime models have failed because they are based on prevailing social prejudices which include xenophobia and racism. As a result, alternative models, including the process model, have been ignored. The process model appears to offer a much better potential fit to the current narcotics trafficking situation. 32 references (Author abstract modified)
