Abstract
Data were collected for January 1-May 31, 1979, from nonpublished State and SMSA data for 1960-77 and from unpublished Federal Bureau of Investigation data on reported crimes and crimes cleared by arrest. The data were obtained for the major crime categories of murder, robbery, rape, assault, burglary, auto theft, and larceny. The main data categories and their sources were crimes and crimes cleared by arrest; data on prison populations and sentences served; data on government expenditures, tax bases, intergovernmental grants, criminal justice system expenditures, and employment; and socioeconomic and demographic data. The data come in two formats: card-image and OSIRIS data file.
