This volume presents step-by-step instructions for use by secondary schools in developing and implementing a program for training high school students to talk with their peers about dating and romantic relationships and to take a proactive stance regarding dating violence.
Abstract
The volume represents the work of educators and students at Brown University and exemplifies an educational approach to dating and relationship awareness. The manual emphasizes the important role of peer education, because peers are powerful voices in influencing the prevailing norms in dating relationships. The Peer Advocacy in Intimate Relationships (PAIR) program aims to prepare peer educators for the workshops they will conduct with their peers and to open general dialogue about dating violence within the selected group of student peer educators. The program addresses issues of sexual harassment as well as dating violence. The manual includes a series of tested classroom exercises and activities that address dating dilemmas commonly faced by high school students. Figures, appended sample materials and guidelines, list of suggested readings, and 5 references for educator activities
