Established in Australia as a result of the Criminology Research Act of 1971, the Criminology Research Council is composed of representatives of the Commonwealth and State governments and is mandated with controlling and administering the Criminology Research Fund. The Fund is used to provide grants to researchers in universities and in the private sector and to government departments.
Abstract
In the 1988-1989 fiscal year, the Council distributed $250,000 in grants, the monies being contributed by the Commonwealth government and each State and Territory on a pro rata population basis. During the year, the Council awarded research grants to 14 projects to be undertaken or continued during that period. In addition, 15 reports of completed projects were received during the year. The newly funded projects and the completed reports are summarized, and a financial statement is attached. 2 appendixes
