Statistics on crime committed in Sweden between 1950 and 1988 are used to analyze the flow of cases within the Swedish criminal justice system and to track trends within various crime types.
Abstract
An overview section provides social, economic, and historical information on Sweden, as well as narratives on the data sources used, the crime structure, and crime trends in general. A general description of the national criminal justice system is followed by discussions of specific components including clearance of crimes, suspected and convicted persons, summary penalties, and waivers of prosecution. Other topics covered include court convictions, fines, conditional sentences, probation, and incarceration. The types of crimes examined in more detail over the reporting period include violent crimes, sexual crimes, robbery and burglary, theft involving motor vehicles, property crimes, and drug related crimes. 11 tables, 47 figures, 72 references and 2 appendixes
