This National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) training and technical assistance guide assists SAKI grantees in the use of fundamental, evidence-based standards of practice in investigating and resolving sexual assault cases in their jurisdictions.
This guide references research that supports each recommended investigative task. The guide also provides user agencies with information that can assist them in following applicable federal, state, and local laws and legal requirements in the management of sexual assault cases, such as legal requirements for search and seizure of evidence, arrest, and detention. Among the topics and practices addressed in the guide are assigned investigator role and response standards, core investigative follow-up steps, and ensuring a professional law enforcement response. 13 references and a checklist of sexual assault investigative tasks
