This trainer's guide presents the content, activities, and background information for a course on building security measures as part of a curriculum aimed at reducing violence, vandalism, and disruption in schools.
Abstract
The 6-hour course is intended for teachers, school administrators, students, parents, youth advocates, school security personnel, and community organization representatives. The course's instructional objectives are to build awareness of how the school and community can strengthen security and to present techniques, including hardware and security forces, to protect the school's physical plant. Additional objectives are to give an overview of methods for designing and upgrading school security programs and to present low cost security programming strategies for small school districts. The course's five modules are taught through lectures, slides, group problem-solving activities. For each module, the training guide includes a synopsis, a summary of content and major learning activities, and a detailed step-by-step narrative which includes directions for the trainer. Lists of materials and equipment needed, additional readings covering selected parts of each training module, and one audiovisual resource are included. For other trainer's guides, NCJ 69756-69759, NCJ 69761, and NCJ 69762. For participants' guides, see NCJ 69749-55.
