This report highlights the activities of the Department of Justice during fiscal year 1988.
Abstract
The Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988 was made law, and an agreement was signed among more than 100 countries in the United Nations to increase international cooperation against drug trafficking. The Department had drug-related seizures and forfeitures in excess of $1.1 billion; more than $479 million in debts owed to the U.S. Government were recovered through litigation. Over 1.4 million immigration applications were reviewed under the legal provisions of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. The report is organized according to the Department's priorities for the year: (1) elimination of illegal drug activity; (2) organized crime; (3) national security; (4) white collar crime; (5) prisoner handling, detention, and incarceration; (6) immigration and border control; (7) administration of justice; (8) international cooperation; (9) legislative and regulatory activities; and (10) management improvements. 8 figures.
