This report describes how the U.S. Justice Department's Office of Justice Programs (OJP), through its bureaus and offices, is addressing family violence in all its dimensions; it offers an overview of the programmatic, statistical, evaluation, and research efforts being supported by OJP.

Abstract

The mission of the OJP Family Violence Working Group is to provide a OJP focus on violent crime within the family and among intimates by promoting improved intra-agency and interagency information exchange, coordinated planning, and collaborative projects. This mission is guided by legislation that authorizes the work of the OJP bureaus and offices and by legislation concerning family violence. The main section of this report reviews the work in family violence conducted by the various offices and bureaus within the OJP. These agencies are the Violence Against Women Grants Office, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the National Institute of Justice, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and the Office for Victims of Crime. The profiles for these agencies focus on each agency's legislative mandate in the area of family violence, background of the agency's family-violence program, brief descriptions of current programs, and anticipated plans. The remaining two sections of the report list OJP publications on family violence and contact persons for family-violence programming in the various OJP agencies.
