In support of mentoring, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJP) funded four mentoring partnerships under the Mentoring Initiative for System Involved Youth (MISIY) in 2006, with grant awards issued in 2007 to several organizations under MISIY. In 2008, a roundtable was convened by the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives highlighting efforts of America’s mentors. Conferences and symposiums recently held include: (1) a child abuse prevention symposium was held in early 2008 where OJJDP Administrator, J. Robert Flores offered a Federal perspective; (2) Blueprints for Violence Prevention in 2008 in Denver, CO; (3) the National Conference on Juvenile Justice in 2008 in St. Louis, MO; and (4) the sixth Helping America’s Youth (HAY) Regional Conference held in 2008 in Portland, OR. Trainings held and sponsored by OJJDP include: (1) Fatality Investigation Training offered at the International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment in San Diego; (2) the Anti-Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Intervention Project’s Training the Trainer Institute held in Washington, DC; and (3) trainings to assist communities and faith-based organizations in their efforts on behalf of youth, to enhance law enforcement in Indian country to improve the quality of life as a means to address juvenile delinquency, and training for new State Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) coordinators. Additional information is offered on newly released publications, as well as updates from the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice.
