The 2006 NCVRW has been scheduled for April 23 through April 29, 2006; this resource guide was developed by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) to enhance victim awareness and public outreach efforts during NCVRW. The 2006 NCVRW theme is “Victims’ Rights: Strength in Unity,” which pays tribute to the way crime victims, their families, and crime victim service providers have come together to offer mutual support and guidance. Theme colors are eggplant and gold. Among the resources contained in this guide are tips on maximizing communication and awareness efforts; NCVRW artwork; tips on working with the media that include sample press releases, public service announcements, and an opinion/editorial column; statistical information and other information resources; and a historical overview of landmarks in victims’ rights and services in the United States. Quick tips for planning NCVRW events and activities are offered and include the establishment of a NCVRW Planning Committee and the development of a current roster of local and State media. Two DVDs are included in the resource guide: one DVD contains camera-ready artwork and the other contains a 6-minute presentation of the 2006 NCVRW theme that is designed for use at public awareness, educational, and training events in the local community. A two-color 22 inch by 27 inch poster incorporating the 2006 NCVRW theme is available by contacting OVC.
