This report describes the results of an exploratory study of seven chronic sex offenders, convicted of three or more independent felony sex offenses and committed to the Washington State Department of Corrections between 1985 and 1989.
Abstract
Subjects were identified from among convicted offenders who were not eligible for the Special Sex Offender Sentencing Alternatives (SSOSA). Data were collected from police reports, presentence investigation reports, clinical evaluations and diagnoses, treatment involvement, education and employment histories, and prison and community adjustment reports. Results showed that the file material on chronic sex offenders was complete and generally consistent with the guidelines set forth in the Offender Psycho-Social Assessment Manual. This sample possessed many of the traits and behaviors identified in Hare's Psychopathy Checklist, except that these chronic sex offenders were not versatile offenders and more than half had no juvenile offense history. 1 table and 1 appendix
