This police manual presents guidelines for implementing a model devised to intervene and control the youth gang problem.
Abstract
The manual, which offers a systematic approach to dealing with youth gang crime, addresses several topics: problem assessment and available resources, appropriate steps to take in an emerging gang problem context, suppression of gangs, other strategies and methods to control and prevent youth gang crime, staff selection and training, and evaluation. A mission of suppression and intervention calls for five key strategies: community mobilization, opportunities provision, social intervention, suppression, and organizational change development. Appropriate targets of an antigang program should include gang leaders and core members as well as high- risk gang-prone youth. 1 note, 6 references, and 4 appendixes
