Abstract
The first article concerns the role of the British Prison Service Officer in terms of the social position of officers, the definition of their responsibilities, and potential structural problems in the penal system which give rise to correctional officer disgruntlement, anxiety, and mistrust of management. Another article discusses the new women prisoners and offenders policy statement released by the Victoria (Australia) Minister for Corrections. The so-called agenda for change aims to ensure the secure, safe, and humane control and supervision of women offenders while providing opportunities for their personal development and facilitating reparation to the community. Other articles cover prison privatization in Victoria, inmate suicide and self-injury, and news items from around the Commonwealth.
