Abstract
The status report on the Center for the Study of International Criminality, a self-sustaining section of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, reviews the activities of the center. The article on crime prevention in Great Britain describes the various ways in which national policy toward crime prevention is devised and implemented through the Committee of Chief Constables and the National Crime Prevention Center. The description of Jerusalem's personal distress assistance system for the elderly involved a trial period for the use of alarm units in the homes of 10 elderly citizens (with direct connection to the local police department). The presentation covers the impact of the program. The article on police training and professionalism in Egypt considers the objectives of the police academy and its organizations. Consideration of the legal aspects of British antiterrorist policy in Northern Ireland focuses on media relations, emergency legislation, political prisoner status, the courts, hanging, house searches, arrest procedures, and extradition. Research information is also provided on police officer deaths in Northern Ireland from 1969 to 1982. The West German police language program described was designed to stimulate international communication. The article on the joint foot patrols in El Paso, Tex., depicts the use of a border patrol agent and a local police officer in foot patrols in the city, which is a major throughfare for illegal alien traffic entering the United States. The concluding presentation discusses criminal investigative duties and problems at the Baltimore/Washington International Airport.
