Abstract
The tables show crimes and nonindictable offenses recorded by the State and municipal police and the Royal Marechaussee from January to June, 1980. Comparative rates are cited for the first 6 months of the years between 1971 and 1980. Noteworthy increases over 1979 include a rise of 9 percent in traffic offenses, of 35 percent in disorderly conduct, of 6.4 percent in sex offenses, and of 21 percent in property offenses. Also reported are the numbers of persons taken into custody and the number of shoplifting incidents from January to June, 1980. Bankruptcies are reported through September, 1980. Statistics on fires are give through July, 1980 and tabulated per province, in the 17 largest municipalities, and by amount of loss. The month of July, 1980 is covered by statistics on investigated crimes and nonindictable offenses by province, by groups of municipalities, and by nature of the offense. Crimes recorded by the State, municipal, and Royal Marechaussee police authorities during July, 1980 are tabulated separately. Tables and graphs compose the bulk of the document.
