Abstract
STATISTICAL SUMMARIES OF CASES FILED AND TERMINATED AND DESCRIPTIONS OF LEGAL ORGANIZATION AND JURISDICTION BY LEVEL OF COURT PROVIDED FOR THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF COURTS IN THE OHIO JUDICIAL SYSTEM: (1) THE SUPREME COURT, (2) THE COURT OF APPEALS, (3) THE COURT OF COMMON PLEAS, (4) THE COURT OF CLAIMS, (5) MUNICIPAL COURTS, AND (6) COUNTY COURTS. THE SECTION ON THE SUPREME COURT PROVIDES FOUR BRIEF TABLES OF DATA ON THE NUMBER OF FILED AND TERMINATED CASES IN THE MERIT, MOTION, AND DISCIPLINARY DOCKETS. DATA ON THE OHIO COURT OF APPEALS INCLUDES TABULAR INFORMATION ON THE NUMBER OF CIVIL AND CRIMINAL APPEALS FILED AND TERMINATED IN EACH OF THE 11 APPELLATE DISTRICTS AND STATEWIDE. STATISTICAL DATA ON CASELOADS OF THE COURTS OF COMMON PLEAS ENCOMPASS 22 TABLES DIVIDED INTO FOUR AREAS OF COMMON COURT PLEAS ACTIVITY: GENERAL, DOMESTIC RELATIONS, JUVENILE, AND PROBATE. IN ADDITION TO THE NUMBER AND TYPES OF CASES FILED AND TERMINATED FOR EACH ACTIVITY AREA BY COUNTY AND FOR THE STATE AS A WHOLE, DEMOGRAPHIC COMPARISONS ARE MADE BY COUNTY, AND A 3-YEAR CASE FILING AND TERMINATION COMPARISON IS ALSO PROVIDED. A BRIEF SECTION ON THE COURT OF CLAIMS, WHICH HAS EXCLUSIVE JURISDICTION OVER ALL PERMITTED CIVIL ACTIONS AGAINST THE STATE, IS FOLLOWED BY EXTENSIVE DATA ON THE OHIO MUNICIPAL COURTS. IN ADDITION TO OVERALL TOTALS ON CASE FILINGS AND TERMINATIONS, A SERIES OF TABLES ON MUNICIPAL COURT CRIMINAL CASES INCLUDES BREAKDOWN FOR FELONIES, MISDEMEANORS, AND TRAFFIC CASES. INFORMATION ON CIVIL CASES IS PRESENTED IN SEPARATE TABLES FOR PERSONAL INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE, CONTRACTS, SMALL CLAIMS, FORCIBLE ENTRY AND DETENTION, AND OTHER CIVIL CASES. THE SAME TYPE OF TABULAR INFORMATION IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR COUNTY COURTS. GRAPHS ARE PROVIDED.
