Abstract
THE SAMPLE FOR THIS STUDY WAS RANDOMLY SELECTED FROM 135 CASES RELEASED FROM THE D.C. YOUTH CENTER. A SCHEDULE WAS MADE OF THE COSTS OF THE CORRECTIONAL ACTIONS AND SERVICES FOR EACH CASE. THE AUTHORS DISCUSS THE BREAKDOWN OF COSTS INTO CATEGORIES OF ACTIONS AND SERVICES. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE 25 OFFENDERS GENERATED HIGH CORRECTIONAL COSTS (MEDIAN COST IS $31,000 PER OFFENDER) PRIMARILY IN CONNECTION WITH INSTITUTIONAL TREATMENT.
