This is the training manual provided to participants in the Tribal Youth Program II New Grantee Meeting held July 9-11, 2001, in Washington, DC. The meeting was sponsored by the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to inform new grantees for tribal youth programs about project requirements under their grants.
Abstract
The first section of the training manual presents the guiding principles for general program administration, followed by specific administrative requirements for various program categories. Program categories are programs to reduce, control, and prevent crime both by and against tribal youth; interventions for court-involved tribal youth; improvement to tribal juvenile justice systems; and prevention programs that focus on alcohol and drug abuse. Also discussed in this section are grantee eligibility, application and awards, guiding principles for conducting research, research funding, and program reporting requirements. A Grant Management Policies and Procedures Manual is provided in Section 2, followed by a section on the financial management of grantee projects. The next section provides a schedule for grantees to meet with their project managers during the training program. Other sections of the manual provide information on program implementation, program evaluation, training and technical assistance procedures, budget, and resources. Program summaries for which grants were given are provided in the concluding section of the manual.
