Department of Justice Awards More Than $12 Million to Support Data Sharing
WASHINGTON – The Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs today announced grants totaling more than $12 million to support data and information sharing across law enforcement agencies, in order to reduce crime and make communities safer.
“These investments will support data collection and data infrastructure development in states across the country, which is critical to understanding and improving the nation’s systems of justice,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Amy L. Solomon. “Up-to-date statistical data and the efficient collection and sharing of information across agencies also allows law enforcement, corrections and other justice system professionals to accelerate investigations and communicate with stakeholders, ultimately reducing crime and keeping our communities safe.”
Grants from OJP’s Bureau of Justice Assistance, Bureau of Justice Statistics, National Institute of Justice and Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention distributed millions of dollars in awards to local, state and tribal jurisdictions throughout the United States and territories.
Here is a list of funded grants:
- BJA is awarding more than $4.5 million under its Justice Information Sharing Training and Technical Assistance (JIS TTA) Program to assist state, local and tribal jurisdictions in reducing crime and improving the functioning of the criminal justice system through more effective information sharing, multiagency collaboration and implementation of data-driven, evidence-based strategies.
- BJS is awarding nearly $4.4 million under the State Justice Statistics Program for Statistical Analysis Centers, which will help build the core capacities of the state SACs and improve the sharing of state-level information nationally.
- Another nearly $600,000 is being awarded under BJS’s State Justice Statistics Program for Statistical Analysis Centers Technical Assistance Program to support the collection, analysis and dissemination of statistical information on crime and criminal justice at the state and local levels.
- BJS is also awarding nearly $500,000 under the Local Jail Reporting Program Pilot Test Program, which collects individual-level administrative record data from 10 large jails, including jail admissions and releases, demographic characteristics of inmates, charges and dispositions, and sentences.
- Under a collaborative program, NIJ and OJJDP are awarding $2 million to support the National Juvenile Court Data Archive initiative, which collects, maintains and makes accessible the nation’s primary source of detailed information on juvenile court case processing of delinquency and status offense cases.
