This 2004/05 annual report of the Youth Justice Board (YJB) for England and Wales presents statistics regarding remand decisions made by the courts, the number of young people in custody each month, and the funding provided to youth offending teams (YOTs).
Abstract
Data are divided into six sections: (1) resources; (2) offenses; (3) court remands; (4) disposals; (5) custody; and (6) performance. The section on resources details the YOT budget and the proportion contributed by the YJB in the form of grants to programs such as the Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programme. The second section on offenses provides statistical information on the offenses committed by young people in England and Wales during financial year 2004/05 that resulted in a disposal of some sort. Data are broken down by age, gender, and ethnicity. The third section on court remands offers data on all court remands made during 2004/05, again breaking the information down by age, gender, and ethnicity. Disposals on all pre-court, first-tier, community, and custodial disposals are presented in the fourth section and information on the population in the secure estate for children and young people is presented, by month, in the fifth section. YOT performance during financial year 2004/05 is detailed in the sixth section, including data on the 14 performance indicators outlined by YOTs. Figures, tables, appendix
