YOUTH INJUSTICE: CANADIAN PERSPECTIVES

NCJ Number

Annotation
This volume attempts to redress the mistaken concept that young people in Canadian society have been the recipients of justice emanating from the criminal justice system. Rather they have been the recipients of a series of injustices often carried out in the name of progress, or reflecting the new political atmosphere of the exceptional state.
Abstract
Chapters in this book were written by leading Canadian researchers in the field of young offenders, and share a commonality in their attention to the injustice delivered under the rubric of justice to young people in Canada. The articles deal with a variety of topics which examine youth behavior outside the criminal justice system from the sale of sex, through the apprehension stages of policing, to the courtroom. The understanding youths have of court procedures, the inadequacies of current treatment programs and legislation, the fate of rehabilitative programs, the structure of alternative measures programs, minority youth offenders, issues of criminal liability in children, and youth gangs are also explored in this volume.
