ON THE BASIS OF A REPRESENATIVE SAMPLE OF 852 JUVENILE BOYS BROUGHT BEFORE THE JUVENILE COURTS BETWEEN 1966 AND 1969, THE AUTHOR EXAMINES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MATERIAL EMPLOYMENT AND JUVENILE DELINQUENCY IN FRANCE.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR ANALYZES THE POSITION OF WOMEN AT HOME AND EXAMINES THE TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT OF WORKING WOMEN AS WELL AS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THEIR EMPLOYMENT ON THE BASIS OF THE AVAILABLE DATA. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT THE MOTHER'S WORK OUTSIDE THE HOME LEADS TO DELINQUENCY OF HER CHILDREN. HOWEVER, THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT INDUCE THE MOTHER TO TAKE EMPLOYMENT MAY BE A FACTOR IN THE DELINQUENCY. THE AUTHOR SURMISES THAT THE SOCIAL AND POLITICAL HISTORY OF WOMEN HAS LED TO STIGMATIZATION OF WORKING WOMEN WHICH IN TURN HAS LED TO ASSOCIATING IT WITH JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. --IN FRENCH
