Social work with drug addicts is examined for (a) dealing with family pathology underlying addiction and the fostering of health family interaction to smooth the path to recovery, (b) helping the family to cope with the impact of addiction on the family, and (c) fostering family understanding of addiction and insuring its contribution to the recovery of the addict.
Abstract
The focus is on the concept of "family power," and the family is viewed as the major unit for the strength and support for the addict through the process of treatment and rehabilitation, and one that can provide relief and support to itself as well as to other families which are similarly placed. 12 references.
